BEACHES IN PORT ELGIN

Port Elgin offers some of the most beautiful beaches along Saugeen Shores Lake Huron shoreline. Come breathe in that fresh air and feel the soft beige sand between your toes. Feel an overall well-being. Lower your stress being in nature and feel your mood lift.

Port Elgin Main Beach

A public beach that has been popular since the early 1900's with cottagers and visitors alike. This quiet beach offers those that like sand, sun and waves, a perfect destination.

 

Port Elgin boasts 3KM of beautiful gradual entry fine sandy beach complete with a wheel chair accessible paved walkway. It is a delightful destination for a stroll any time of the day or you can wind your day down by relaxing and enjoying our world-famous sunsets.

 

A popular destination since the late 1800s, this beach offers summer treats and food for those that have swam the day away or played on the sand building sandcastles and fortresses. With harbour just a short way down the beach this playground offers fun for families to play the day away!

Gobbles Grove Beach

Just south of Port Elgin is a sandy beach for those seeking more peace and quiet and less activity. Miles of sandy beach stretch out along Goble's Grove with not a fast food restaurant in sight. Shallow water, swing sets, white sand, and washroom facilities at Goble's only make this a relaxing beach for both adults, teens and children.

No beach shelters on this part of the shore...make sunscreen, hats and a beach umbrella an essential part of your beach gear. To reach Gobles Grove, travel south through Port Elgin to Concession 6 (the last set of traffic lights AND the road to the CAW Centre), turn west and follow the road straight to the water.

Free parking in the small lot and along the road beside the beach dunes.

TYPE OF BEACH: Goble's Grove: sandy and shallow.

Eidt's Grove Beach

A public beach that has been popular since the early 1900's with cottagers and visitors alike. This quiet beach offers those that like sand, sun and waves, a perfect destination. This beach is located South of Port Elgin perfect for those seeking more peace and quiet and less activity.

 

Miles of sandy beach stretch out along Eidt's Grove with not a fast food restaurant in sight. Shallow water makes this a relaxing beach for both adults, teens and children. No beach shelters on this part of the shore...make sunscreen, hats and a beach umbrella an essential part of your beach gear.

 

This route takes a bit longer than travelling the highway, but it's a much more scenic route.  Park free of charge along the side of the road or in any of the marked beach access areas.

Miramichi Bay

This beach area offers a lookout for birdwatchers and nature lovers alike. With a stone and pebble base in some areas there are benches to sit and watch sunsets and sunrises. This area is not known for sunbathing, but for it's scenic views and environmental friendly area for a variety of migrating birds.

 

Parking is limited and it is suggested that these beaches be visited via the North Shore Trail by walking, running or cycling. The trail is paved and maintained by the Town of Saugeen Shores. There are no public washrooms in this beach area.

Shipley Beach

The perfect beach for a summer afternoon,  popular with sun worshippers. Parking is limited and it is suggested that you arrive early and bring your own shade and umbrellas. This is a public beach, but you will feel like you are on a private beach.

There is public access to this beach, but again parking is limited. It is best to walk or bike to this beaches. Washrooms are not available at this beach.

North Shore Park Beach

Located on the north side of the Port Elgin harbour is North Shore Park and beach. The beach is one of the only beaches in Saugeen Shores that allows dogs from May 1 to October 1st.

 

This is an excellent location to bring your pooch to socialise and burn off some energy in the water. Click here to watch a video of the beach area.
